Advantage of Biogas

Biogas Plant Domestic, Industrial and Commercial

Biogas, naturally occurring gas that is generated by the breakdown of organic matter by anaerobic bacteria and is used in energy production. Biogas differs from natural gas in that it is a renewable energy source produced biologically through anaerobic digestion rather than a fossil fuel produced by geological processes. Biogas is primarily composed of methane gas, carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of nitrogen, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide. It occurs naturally in compost heaps, as swamp gas, and as a result of enteric fermentation in cattle and other ruminants.

Biogas Plant Components

The plant comprises 6 main operating units:

Operating unit 1: Raw material Reception / Storage & Substrate / Feed Preparation

[Cow dung / organic waste feeding >crushing >Re-circulate material feed >mixer Tank]

Operating unit 2: Fermentation & Digesting

[Digester >Desulphurization >Pressure handling]

Operating unit 3: Condensate

[Overfill safety unit >float switch >Upper and lower switching-off point, Float switch >Minimum filling level safety unit >float switch]

Operating unit 4: Scrubbing unit

[H2s Scrubbing> C02 Scrubbing]

Operating unit 5: Gas utilization

[Compressed > High pressure to Cascade]

Operating unit 6: Organic Fertilizer unit

[Solid Liquid Separator > Screw Press or Filter Press > Centrifuge >Pressure Sand Filter >Ultra Filtration System > Reverse Osmosis]

Commercial Bio CNG(Compressed Biogas) Process

The purified biogas can be bottled in CNG cylinders and wherever CNG is currently used, biogas bottling can be used as an alternative. The slurry which comes out of the biogas plant is directly or after drying used as bio/organic manure for improving soil-fertility and reducing use of chemical fertilizers.

Biogas Purification Process for commercial (for H2S and CO2 removal)

  • Biogas Flow : 20000-22000 Nm3/ day
  • Biogas pressure : 2500 mmWC
  • Methane (CH4) : 60 – 65 %
  • Carbon Dioxide(CO2) : 35 % (Max)
  • Hydrogen Sulphide(H2S) : 3 % (Max)

Bio- fertilizer from Biogas plant

  • Biogas is derived from any type of wet organic waste, mainly animal dung, food and Kitchen waste, industrial organic waste.
  • In anaerobic digester (biogas plant), due to operation Methanogenic microorganisms are complex organic molecules that are broken down into several steps and finally Biogas and bio fertilizer are produced as the final product.
  • There is a significant difference in organic use Dispose of the waste directly in the soil and then compost it in the biogas plant. In raw organic waste, the Nutrients are in complex form, so it is difficult for soil microorganisms to activate it and replace it.
  • But in the case of organic fertilizers composted from the Biogas plant, it is already broken into simple form, so the plant uses it immediately without any modification.

Advantages

  • Reduced volume
  • Odor less
  • Reduced pathogens and weed seeds
  • Reduced spontaneous emissions of CH4, NH3 and N2O on to the atmosphere

Advantages and Benefits of Biogas

  • Biogas is eco-friendly fuel. Provides a non-polluting and renewable source of energy.
  • Larger biogas plants generate and feed electricity into mainstream power grids.
  • The digested sludge is high quality organic manure, completely natural and free from harmful synthetic chemicals. It can supplement or even replace chemical fertilizers.
  • Leads to employment and improvement in the environment, sanitation and hygiene.
